Which precautions? 
Be careful to choose the right size and favour the official ring. This will avoid incommoding the animal (ring that is caught in branches…) For cocks, take care to replace the ring over the front spur before it is too big.

At what age can we ring? 
Ringing takes place in general at 7/8 weeks, after that the leg is too big to be able to slide the ring on.

Large breeds:
- Orpington, Marans, Wyandottes, Sussex, Rhode Island = hen diameter
20mm and cock diameter 22mm,
- Faverolles = hen diameter 22mm and cock diameter 24mm,
- Brahma = hen diameter 24mm and cock diameter 27mm,
- Padua, Brahma, Gauloise, Gournay, Leghorn = hen diameter 16mm
and cock diameter 18mm.
Dwarf breeds: (some breeds below exist also as larger breeds)
- Silkie (Black silkie) = hen diameter 12mm and cock diameter 14mm,
- Golden Ardennes, Watemael brill, Antwerp brill quail = hen diameter 9mm
and cock diameter 10mm,
- Nagasaki, Wyandotte = hen diameter and cock diameter 12mm,
- Beijing = hen diameter 14mm and cock diameter 14/16mm.
